Groomsmen Duties

Groomsmen Duties

When most guys are planning for their weddings and it is time to think of someone who shall be the groomsman, the first person who comes to their minds is that close friend, that former college mate they have known for years, or that work mate they always share their secrets with. However, choosing a groomsman isn't an easy or simple task. This is because the person chosen to be the groomsman must have total commitment, and more importantly, realize the significance and enormity of the task placed on his shoulders.

Groomsmen duties and responsibilities are often so numerous and important that it might almost be said that the role they play on the D day determines very much the success of the day. A groomsman, once he has accepted that request, is responsible for things that will cost him money, and unless he accepts to play that role whole heartedly, then he is unlikely to carry out his duties as required. First and foremost, the groomsman is expected to pay for his own Tuxedo rental, the travel expenses, as well as the hotel accommodations. The role he plays also see him contribute to the cost of organizing the bachelor party, not to forget a memorable gift for the newly weds.

Groomsmen duties start months before the wedding day, a few days to the wedding, and on the wedding day. Months before the wedding day, the groomsman ought to be preparing the wedding speech, helping the best man with organizing the bachelor’s party, and helping the groom and best man with any tasks that they may need help with. With a few days to the wedding, it is for the groomsman to fine tune the wedding speech to ensure that it encompasses all the important details and aspects of the wedding. Besides, he helps design the venue where the ceremony will be held. He also attends the rehearsal dinner, and in most cases helps set up and clean after the bachelor party. The last days sees the groomsman stick close to the groom, and offering them the support and help they may need.

On the wedding day, groomsmen escort the bridesmaids down the aisle, escort the mothers of the bride and groom to their seats, although differently, and seats guests at the ceremony. The wedding has to be orderly and all guests made to feel at home, so it is for the  groomsmen to follow and direct the itinerary that the groom may assign to them, They also sit at the head table during  reception, and  may be called to open the floor by dancing with the bridesmaids,

Groomsmen duties call for commitments and clock work precision in everything so as not to mess the ceremony. There have been cases of groomsmen who messed weddings by pulling out in the last minute, or not being around when and where wanted. Worse still, others have turned up drunk. To avoid this, let the supposed groomsman know in advance what is expected of him, and if they can not cope, kindly excuse them.
